Internet Explorer 6 continues to be quite a popular browser these days, even though it was launched more than 12 years ago.

Statistics provided by Net Applications and posted by Microsoft on the IE6 Countdown page show that IE6 currently has a 4.9 percent market share, pretty much because of China, as 3 percent of the users in the country are running this version right now.

Both India and Japan are still among the countries where IE6 remains very popular, while the majority of consumers in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, and Denmark have already made the move to a newer browser.

Internet Explorer 6 was officially launched more than 12 years ago with Windows XP and since the operating system will soon be retired, Microsoft expects more users to at least update to a newer browser version.

Of course, the main reason is the overall security offered to users, but also the advanced features and technologies that a new browser brings to consumers these days.
