At the WAEA Conference in Miami, an airline entertainment industry convention, Triagnosys and 3Way Networks, the 3G equipment specialist, announced that they will launch
the first generation of
3G in-flight communication systems for the Business Jet market, to meet the requirements of the busy executives that want to use their 3G enabled devices while flying.
Dr. Nigel Cooke, Chairman of ScotAsh, the joint venture between Lafarge and Scottish Power, said: "it goes without saying that it will be advantageous to almost any executive to be able to be contactable while flying. Business decisions don't wait."
Axel Jahn, managing director of Triagnosys said that "we have prioritized the business jet market as this is where we are seeing the greatest demand for 3G bandwidth-dependent capabilities. The flexibility and cost effectiveness of the service makes it commercially viable to install and run on business jets of all sizes."
Also, Simon Albury, 3Way Networks Sales and Marketing VP, said "the beauty of the system is that the on-board equipment is limited to a single 3G Aviation Cell that interconnects with the existing aircraft satellite communications system. The core network will be hosted by a terrestrial based operator."
The equipment designed by the two companies will be the response to the needs of the business jet market, being lightweight and compact, very easy to install and maintain, a low power consumer, and weighing less than 4 kilos. It will be capable of supporting 10 voice calls simultaneously and to maintain
HSPDA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) at rates of 3.6 Mbits/s.
