Although SSDs tend to spend a lot more time in the spotlight nowadays, the truth of the matter is that the bulk of storage in home computers is still done by HDDs, and the Seagate Barracuda XT proves this only very well, coming with a whooping 3TB of storage space.

According to Seagate, their very capacious storage solution has been specifically designed to be used within a wide array of desktop solutions, such as workstations, HD production systems, high-end gaming rigs and even everyday desktop PCs, not to mention home servers, making it easier for users to get a lot more storage space in a smaller footprint.

Beside the aforementioned amount of storage space, the 3.5-inch XT hard-drive from Seagate also offers users Serial ATA 6Gb/s connectivity, offering the highest data throughput currently available, which is actually extremely important, since we're pretty sure that data backup will be the primary purposes users will employ the XT HDD for.

Another very interesting detail worth pointing out here is that the 7200RPM drive from Seagate is accompanied by the Seagate DiscWizard software, that enables users to access the entire storage capacity provided by the drive, and not just a limited amount, as it would normally happen in the case of legacy PC BIOS designs and the Windows XP operating system.

Typically, in the case of such systems, users are only able to access a limited 2.1TB, a limitation that's quite hard to overcome, but which the aforementioned application solves in a few easy steps.

The systems featuring Windows 7 or UEFI BIOS won't be affected by this problem, though.

Despite offering such an impressive storage space and extra features, the Barracuda XT 3TB hard – drive is not exactly what we'd call hugely expensive, given the fact that it sells for just around US$279.
