Disappointing sales of smartphones are to blame for this one

Even as Samsung smugly revels in its dominance on the smartphone industry, the overall market bemoans its sorry state.

True, smartphones haven't been selling poorly exactly, but sales were still disappointing, at least on the high-end front.

And since smartphones are a major outlet for the NAND Flash storage industry, the weak demand rippled outward.

Thus, demand for NAND Flash chips is expected to be weak, disappointing really, for the third quarter of the year (2013).

On the bright side, this might lead to a cut in general prices, just like NAND tags fell 5% so far this month (July 2013).

That's what you get when you're too optimistic about your sales chances I suppose. NAND Flash chip makers will probably be more wary in the future, although it ultimately depends on a lot of other factors besides monthly sales.
