If we're to believe a mysterious source

In the breaking-but-not-really category of news we have this: the much-talked-about and impatiently awaited 3G iPhone will be officially presented and released on the 9th of June, during the Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 (WWDC), which will take place in San Francisco.

This precious piece of info comes not from Apple (at least not directly), but from Gizmodo, which says that a person "very, very close" to the insides of the Cupertino company confirmed the June 9 release date. Well, since mysterious and unnamed persons can't be fully credible, for the moment we have no guarantee that the 3G iPhone will indeed be unveiled at WWDC. Therefore, we'll just have to wait a few more weeks until June 9 and see then how close to Apple that invoked source really is.

Other rumors about the 3G iPhone, coming from the same source, say that in the second half of June the handset will be commercially available across Europe. For instance, Spain's mobile subscribers will be able to buy a speedy iPhone starting June 18, from Telefonica's new megastore that will open its doors on that date. As for the US users, we assume they'll have the new iPhone in stores shortly after the WWDC presentation.

The June release for the 3G iPhone was discussed so much lately that its "unconfirmed confirmation" coming from Gizmodo is not actually such a surprise. Even so, such an early release of Apple's second-gen device is definitely a good thing.

Official details about how exactly the 3G iPhone looks like or about what features Apple packed in it are still missing. Moreover, there's nothing about its price, except the fact that the new handset will come with different sales policies and its price will vary depending on each country (as if that's something unusual).

While awaiting for the 9th of June, I can't help asking myself who exactly is that "very, very close" unveiler of Apple's 3G secrets. Maybe Steve Jobs himself let out the news, angry on HTC and their new Touch Diamond that will also be released in June, coming as a serious threat to the future success of the iPhone. Now there's only one question left: will the 3G iPhone prove to be better than the Diamond?
