Fusion Garage has no problems with software hacks

Even though it hasn't exactly been selling very well, the JooJoo seems to, at least, be putting up a fight. In fact, Fusion Garage does not exactly seem inclined to scrap the project now that it has finally kicked off, more or less. This was made quite clear not long ago, when the slate became available for shipment in Canada and European countries. Now, the company's CEO told a few words to The INQUIRER, revealing some of the future plans involving the tablet.

Currently, the JooJoo has WiFi connectivity and only 4GB of internal flash storage space. The storage space alone severely limits the device's functionality. After all, one can only play multimedia files if there is enough storage space to copy them onto. According to CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan, the INQUIRER reports, the JooJoo should soon gain the ability to recognize USB storage devices. This should occur sometime during the next 30 days.

This is definitely a good piece of news and might finally spark some real end-user interest in the tablet. The second change that should eventually come is related to the connectivity. Currently, the JooJoo only comes equipped with WiFi. However, within three months, according to the Chief Executive Officer, a 3G-enabled version should become available, only it will only be sold through mobile operators. This means that the slate may end up cheaper than the model currently on sale.

Unfortunately, there is no indication of who, exactly, the mobile operators will be. On the other hand, Fusion Garage's policy regarding software hacks and operating systems is not as strict as one might expect. Apparently, the company has nothing against end-users employing a USB drive to load a new OS onto the product. Still, the manufacturer itself will not actually support this and advises end-users that the warranty will be voided in case the software platform is replaced.
