Education software company Kno, Inc. has announced 3D & Smart Links, two new interactive learning features for those who use its free iPad application, Textbooks.

According to Kno, students will find it a lot easier to understand difficult concepts by instantly turning 2D figures into interactive 3D models “that jump off the page,” thanks to the new 3D feature in their Textbooks app.

A Smart Links feature automatically links videos, images, websites and other multi-media content to key concepts presented in the textbook.

The 3D feature is initially introduced in chemistry textbook titles, offering students a look inside complex and abstract figures.

The feature is said to drastically accelerate the time it takes to learn and practice difficult chemistry concepts.

Currently in beta, Kno’s new feature brings hundreds of 3D chemistry figures to life, “allowing students to rotate, spin, zoom, accelerate and display 360-degree views of the object.”

Commenting on their new update, company officials said: “An industry first, Kno has addressed the pain point for students in understanding complex problems presented in textbooks and classrooms by integrating one-to-one learning solutions into digital textbooks to help prevent students from getting left behind.”

“Kno’s new 3D and Smart Links features are bringing interactive learning to a new level,” said Babur Habib, CTO and co-founder.

“These features extend beyond the classroom, giving students an opportunity to get hands on and explore concepts within the context of what they are already studying, in a completely new way.”

In addition to the 3D and Smart Links features, Textbooks version 1.6.1 brings Photo Notes, a feature that lets students snap pics of a whiteboard or study session and instantly add them to their Journal.

Video Notes, another new addition, lets users take a video of a class or lecture and seamlessly integrate it with their notes.
