3D Realms Confirms (I Had You for a Second) 'Earth No More!'

- They meant it when they said no Duke announcements were in order

By: Filip Truta, Games Editor

When 3D Realms said they'd make an announcement soon, everyone asked themselves: Duke Nukem Forever? Of course, as usual, that's not the case: Game Informer has a few details from the developer on their new futuristic shooter, Earth No More. The site revealed a collaboration with newly founded Recoil Games.

3D Realms is acting in a similar manner as when they signed with Remedy Entertainment for the Max Payne series, 1UP reports. Thus,
3D Realms isn't really developing Earth No More, but rather "producing" it. Let's just hope the title does launch in 2009 and not 10 years later. Duke Forever is in the works for well over that period of time.

So, I'm sure you want to know as many details as possible on this new title. Am I right? Of course I am; unfortunately, there aren't many details to be discussed. All that was revealed is that Earth No More is a futuristic shooter, avoiding the distinction between completely solo single-player and forced squad-combat, as the latter mentioned site reports.

Here's 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller sharing a few thoughts with us: "We're going to design almost every weapon in the game to where it's going to have a sort of collaborative mode to it," said Scott Miller in the article. "One gun called the Linker works like a reverse proton pack from Ghostbusters."

Another of the man's statements (from a previous interview) shows how the team wants to replicate the atmosphere found in the Alien series: "The team is intricately analyzing how group dynamics work in movies like the Alien, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and 28 Days Later, hoping to emulate that kind of tension in game form."

I have to say that implementing that atmosphere to next generation shooters might just be the new trend. Sounds promising. Now, how about some Duke screens? And by Duke screens I mean DUKE SCREENS, not enemy screens!
