If parents are too excited to wait for their baby to be born or just want to have a reminder of the pregnancy in the shape of a rather bizarre resin replica of their offspring, they can purchase a 3D recreation of their fetus. From all of the things available or just designed for 3D printing at the moment, this may be the creepiest one yet.

A company looking for online funding is promoting the creation of 3D sculptures of unborn babies based on 4D ultrasounds of the fetus. The final printout is life-sized and is offered in a coffin-like box made from wood and lined with satin.

The recreation is made from resin and looks like a clear block of plastic, resembling some lifeless forms preserved in amber or other substances. The baby copies are also available in different colors – light, medium, or dark – and can be positioned in two ways, revealing their gender or not.

The company, 3D Babies, requires an ultrasound of the baby and the payment of $600 (€443), and they will send in return a customized figure of the fetus. As a special offer, customers can also order a half-size baby for $400 (€295) or even a mini-baby fetus for $200 (€147), notes the Business Insider.

The project was placed on the fundraising website Indiegogo with a goal of $15,000 (€11,078) but only managed to raise $1,225 (€905). Despite the team's belief that people would like to have a 3D baby fetus figurine to remind them of one of life's most amazing experiences, their product doesn't seem to be very attractive.

The founders of the 3D Babies company are the parents of two little girls who, according to their project summary, were the motivation for their business. They didn't want to forget about the beautiful memories surrounding the pregnancies so they found a way to preserve them. After managing to create a successful reminder for their family, the couple now wants to give other parents the same experience.
