As bad as the movie was (or wasn't), it did revive the interest in these things

The latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie didn't quite enchant the entire world, with both critics and fans having mixed feelings about it, but the film did leave an imprint on the world.

The higher interest in the franchise, and the four mutant turtles in particular, led to Jacob Sonk's latest project. Or maybe he hated the movie so much that he wanted to recreate the turtles himself.

Or perhaps the movie had nothing to do with it. The first ninja turtle he 3D printed, Leonardo, was made for a class he was teaching.

A Form1+ 3D Printer was used, and the turtle ended up with a layer thickness of 50 microns. Which means it is pretty well detailed, especially after the thing was smoothed and covered in basic acrylic paint.

Later, he also printed the other three turtles, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. He may or may not model and print other characters, like Master Splinter. The Shredder may get his own figurine too.

Hopefully, he won't be sued by anyone for this.

In order to make larger models, or to allow for bulk production, Sonk may cut the prints into sections, to make multiple copies of the same segment at once and assemble the toys later.
