If you happen to have an identical twin that's messing up your computer accounts or if you want your PC data well secured, then better look for this camera. Toronto-based Bioscrypt company touted the introduction of the world's first 3D face recognition camera for use in authenticating individuals accessing a computer.

Using infrared and visible light, the VisionAccess 3D DeskCam performs face scans in three dimensions to check your identity. The camera uses 40,000 identification points, scanning your forehead, eye sockets and nose bridge. Facial hair will not impede the machine to identify the correct person. So you can peacefully decide to grow a beard. You'll only have to register again if you undergo cosmetic surgery. Really. As long as you don't do anything stupid like falling down the stairs, it'll be ok, you'll always have access to your PC. You will no longer have to remember passwords, tokens or cards to log on to your computer. Just put your face in front of the camera and wait until the computer's doors open. Byoscrypt VeriSoft Single Sign On can automatically initiate network logon and/or single sign-on to pre-registered web-based or Microsoft Windows applications.

"With the introduction of the VisionAccess DeskCam we are continuing to build out our multi-factor authentication solution set that facilitates the convergence of IT infrastructure and physical security systems," said Robert L. Williams, President and CEO of Bioscrypt. "We are providing the platform to assist companies to unify identities across the organization by supporting a multitude of authentication methods used for access control. This support now extends to 3D face for IT security."

The VisionAccess 3D DeskCam is 3-inch tall and it looks like any other desktop camera. The camera connects to the PC or laptop via a single USB interface. It will only be available in the second half of 2007.
