While there is still the Refurbished section to check for a reasonably-priced iPad 1, customers have apparently scooped up the very last $399 WiFi iPads from Apple's online store, indicating that there is still huge demand for all existing versions of the tablet computer.

Checks with Apple’s US online store have led Softpedia to believe that the original iPad with WiFi-only networking and 16GB of storage is killing competition a full year after its official introduction to the market.

Adding insult to injury, Apple has been selling a much-enhanced iPad 2 since March 11.

It has everything the original had, plus two cameras, a better processor, and the same 10-hour battery life, all inside a much thinner and more streamlined enclosure.

The second-generation device was introduced at the same price as the original, which allowed Apple to slash the price on the original models by $100.

Needless to point out, the price drop enticed so many customers (many of them likely not even avid fans of the company) that they set out to buy their own Apple tablet, even though the iPad 2 had already been confirmed.

Apple, as Softpedia readers should well know, has two sections on its online store that are dedicated to selling either obsolete, or refurbished (pre-owned) products.

The Clearance Items section is lacking any WiFI 16GB iPads whatsoever, but it still lists availability for the more expensive, higher-specced models.

- iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G 16GB (first generation) - $529.00 - iPad with Wi-Fi 64GB (first generation) - $599.00 - iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G 32GB (first generation) - $629.00 - iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G 64GB (first generation) - $729.00

Over at the Refurbs section, original iPads start at $479.00 for the model with Wi-Fi + 3G and 16GB of memory, and go all the way up to $659 for the high-end version with Wi-Fi + 3G and 64GB of storage capacity.

Notably, the refurbs section also lacks any entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi iPads at the Refurbs at the moment.
