Orangutans are currently considered an endangered species, hence the fact that conservationists will probably jump for joy at the news that a baby ape belonging to this species was recently born at Twycross Zoo in the United Kingdom.

Information shared with the public says that the baby ape was born to mom Kibriah bright and early on November 28, and that keepers first laid eyes on the orangutan family during their morning rounds.

The 36-year-old female orangutan has given birth to three other offspring until now, so it is quite experienced and is doing a great job looking after the Zoo's latest arrival.

“We’re all very proud. Kibriah is a very loving mum and she’s doing such a great job,” says zoo employee Simon Childs, as cited by Zoo Borns.

“She is holding the baby very close so we won’t know if it’s a boy or a girl just yet,” she adds.

For the time being, the baby orangutan has not yet had the chance to meet its dad, 24-year-old Badu. However, keepers say that it will not be long until they arrange a meeting and allow to two to get to know each other.
