Celebrities love a good bargain even if they seem to have all the money in the world and clearly no budget limit when it comes to fashion. This way, they have made a £35 vintage dress from Peacocks into this season’s hottest item.

Created by singer turned fashion designer Pearl Lowe for her latest clothing line, the black tea-style dress is proving to be the most in-demand item of the season, even with celebrities.

The Daily Mail reports that the popularity of the dress was boosted by good ol’ fashioned word-of-mouth on social networks like Facebook and Twitter, prompting the most astounding demand Peacocks has ever had for a single item.

Not only has the dress sold out online in a couple of hours but, for the first time ever, the retailer has made a waiting list for it. Celebrities too are dying to get their hands on it.

If one is wondering about what makes this particular dress so special, its huge appeal with the public seems to rely on the fact that it’s simple, yet elegant at the same time.

Inspired by designs wore in the ‘50s, the dress also includes a cream lace collar and sleeves, a pinched waist and skirt detailing – and it brings out the best in all women, regardless of their size and shape.

This was precisely what designer Lowe was going for when she set out to create the dress, a spokesperson for Peacocks says. Nevertheless, how big of a hit it was is still surprising.

“It is significant that many fashion editors, who usually turn up to fashion weeks wearing established designers, such as Chanel or Marc Jacobs, chose this year to wear a £35 dress from Peacocks,” the spokesperson says in a statement to the aforementioned publication.

“Pearl has always been adamant that she wanted to make clothes for women with real figures, so they are designed for women with busts and curves,” the statement further reads.

“The range is popular because it is so comfortable and flattering to wear. Pearl has been meticulous about her collections – she goes to the factory to oversee production and chooses the fabrics and laces herself to make sure her clothes have that authentic vintage feel,” the Peacocks spokesperson adds.
