The development team at 343 Industries has confirmed that two enemies mentioned on the back of Halo action figures will be part of the upcoming Halo 4, although it has not offered any clear information on their origin or on their abilities.

The Crawler and the Watcher seem to be part of an entirely new species, which the development team has already hinted at, and will probably be mixed in with already familiar faces in order to deliver a number of new tactical challenges to Master Chief and his allies.

343 Industries has already stated that one of their aims for Halo 4 is to diversify the enemy types and that it will do that mostly by creating all-new creatures rather than recycle content previously seen in the games of the series.

Microsoft has been rather tight lipped when it comes to details about Halo 4, but it has recently offered fans 32 images via the Waypoint website, which have been quickly used to create the cover art for the series by fans.

343 Industries has said that Master Chief and Cortana will have to explore significant Forerunner artifacts and buildings on a Shield World and that the new setting will allow them to introduce mystery and exploration elements to the first-person shooter genre.

The development team also wants to explore how the Artificial Intelligence companion is adapting to her new situation and how humanity is evolving after the Covenant War.

Halo 4 is set to be the first part of a trilogy that will include a dark chapter in Halo 5 and will resolve its story arc in the sixth full title in the series.

Much about the narrative will also be linked to events depicted in the Halo novels and Microsoft probably has plans to move Master Chief to other media.

Halo 4 launches exclusively on the Xbox 360 on November 6.
