STORAGE

300GB HDD for Laptops

- Fujitsu does it again

By: Alexandru Pancescu, Hardware Editor

Some time ago, Fujitsu Computer Products announced plans to develop a new generation of laptop-intended 2.5 inch hard disk drives that would reach 1TB storage capacities. According to the manufacturing company, these drives are due out in 2010 so customers will have to make do until then with small drives like the new external and travel ready drive that comes with an unformatted storage capacity of
300GB.

The Fujitsu External Hard Disk Drive is intended for data storage and backup and because of a sleek design and superior mobile production technology, they are well suited for travelers. As the USB standard is used for both the data connection and the power feed, the Fujitsu External Hard Disk Drive does not need a separate power supply as the host laptop can lend the device all the necessary power. As mobile data storage systems are subjected to shock and the like while on the move, Fujitsu integrated a new 16-point omnidirectional shock mounting design that is aimed at reducing shocks and vibrations.

"We are proud to launch the world’s highest capacity 2.5" External HDD product into the marketplace at a time when consumers are demanding more storage, compact designs, and features that advance the level of data security," said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "Fujitsu has almost forty years of experience in the hard disk drive industry, and we have successfully expanded our 2.5" HDD business over the last fourteen years. As a result of our focus and commitment to R&D, we have been able to leverage our expertise in this field to create an ideal solution for portable backup and storage solutions".

Like most other mobile storage solutions, this too comes with an integrated software bundle that contains Apricorn’s EZ Gig II back up and cloning software, Cryptainer encryption program featuring strong encryption options like AES 256 or Blowfish 448 bit and finally, Second Copy 2000 synchronizing software that can span back ups between multiple computers and act as file server.
