Happy birthday and keep them coming

Activision was born on October the 1st, 1979, and has turned into a leader in the game industry. Its titles are expected by gamers all over the world and, as soon as launched, they spread with the speed of a tsunami. Its games are probably also the most pirated of all in the world and plenty of them are known even to those that have nothing to do with gaming.

The long-lasting career of Activision begun as the first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming consoles, back in the 80s, when it started selling game cartridges for Atari (it was B.CD – that's Before CD - and yes, there was gaming back then).

The company was founded in 1979 by four Atari game programmers (David Crane - the creator of Pitfall, for those who still remember the title, Larry Kaplan, Alan Miller and Bob Whitehead) and Jim Levy. It's Activision. The publisher of hit series such as Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Spider-Man, and the Tony Hawk series just turned 30 recently and it has the same vigor as ever, as it is on the verge of publishing the sequel for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

30 years in the gaming industry is no small thing, and judging by the immense list of hit titles under its belt, Activision is definitely ready for at least another 30-year round. Though it is not under the same management it was when it started (it was acquired by Vivendi in 2007), the Activision name still stands for quality, innovation and surpassing the standards in gaming industry.

The amount of games under the Activision name is immense, reaching a few hundreds, developed for all sorts of consoles and machines, starting with the old and famous Atari, and ending with the new generation of Nintendo Wii, PlayStation or Xbox. Activision also publishes games for different computer platforms (even Linux). So, with such a solid background and having the backbone of a winner, it is safe to say that Activision is here to play.

Happy Birthday, Activision!
