14 DAY TRIAL // Just the other day, officers in the US seized an Easter Bunny doll, and having subjected it to an unexpected, erm, cavity search, they found that it contained a whole lot of methamphetamine.
Information shared with the public says that the meth was neatly packaged in two condoms that in turn were stuffed inside the Easter Bunny doll.
It was a police dog that first figured out something was wrong
The doll was on its way to the city of Tahlequah in Oklahoma when, while at a local post office in Tulsa County, it had the misfortune to be sniffed out by a police dog.
It only took the pooch a few seconds to figure out that this Easter Bunny at the Tulsa County post office wasn't quite as innocent as it was pretending to be and bark for reinforcements.
The Easter Bunny doll was immediately seized, and on closer inspection, it became clear that something was hidden inside it. This something turned out to be methamphetamine.
“The Easter Bunny I thought was a strange touch,” said Tahlequah Police Chief Nate King in an interview, as cited by Metro. “It’s not the prize egg that we want in Tahlequah,” the officer added.
The two condoms recovered from inside the Easter Bunny contained precisely one pound (0.45 kilograms) of meth estimated to be worth approximately $30,000 (€27,300).
The methamphetamine's rightful owner is yet to be identified
Had it not been intercepted by authorities, the Easter Bunny was supposed to reach Carolyn Ross in Tahlequah. The woman, now in police custody, was then expected to send the meth to somebody else.
Eventually, the drug would have been distributed. For the time being, it is unclear who tried mailing the doll to Carolyn Ross only to fail miserably and who was to sell the meth.
An investigation is ongoing and officers in Oklahoma are confident that, should Carolyn Ross prove willing to cooperate, they will soon identify and arrest the other suspects involved in this case as well.
