The online community is now abuzz with the news that, this past weekend, a 3-year-old girl believed to be dead woke up at her own funeral, just as family and close ones were getting ready to seal the coffin and forever say goodbye to her.

The incident occurred on Sunday, in a town in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, in the Philippines. The identity of the girl and that of her family have not yet been revealed to the public, presumably to ensure their protection.

However, a video showing the girl being removed from her coffin by her family made it online just hours after the 3-year-old's waking up at her own funeral. The footage is available below, and is growing into a viral sensation.

According to Phil Star, the girl started feeling ill a few days before being pronounced dead. The girl reportedly experienced intense fever and, come Friday, her family decided to rush her to a local hospital and let doctors examine her.

By the time the 3-year-old was brought to hospital, her condition had deteriorated to a considerable extent. In a nutshell, doctors on call were unable to find her pulse, and consequently told her parents that she was dead.

“During that time, the attending clinic personnel and physician confirmed that the young patient had no more pulse and was clinically dead last Saturday morning about 9 a.m.,” Aurora Police Senior Inspector Heidil Teelan told the press.

Struck with grief, the girl's parents took the girl back home and started making preparations for her funeral. They got her a small wooden casket, and even arranged for a service to be held at a local church on Sunday.

It was during the funeral service that one of the mourners noticed that the 3-year-old girl's head was moving, and alerted the family. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that the girl was by no means dead, but instead had a pulse.

Needless to say, the funeral service was canceled, and the 3-year-old's parents took their daughter back home. Despite being very much alive, the girl is said to be unable to properly respond to stimuli. Hence, her family hopes to take her to a better equipped hospital as soon as possible.

“We really can not make confirmation on the status of the girl but based on the observation of the police personnel I deployed it appear the girl remained in a state of comatose in their house,” Heidil Teelan said in an interview.

Given the fact that the girl's family is still in shock, several nurses are now helping the 3-year-old's parents look after her. It is to be expected that a thorough investigation into this incident will soon be underway. Hopefully, it will soon be explained why the girl was wrongly pronounced dead.
