The 14th Global Mobile Awards brought some interesting names to the light this year, as the top of the list in the Best Mobile Handset or Device section was the Amoi-made INQ1 for 3 UK. The handset managed to outpace competitors like the LG KS360, T-Mobile G1, BlackBerry Storm 9500 or Nokia E71.

There were 7 categories at the 14th Global Mobile Awards, and a wide panel of judges from within the industry of mobile technology voted the winners on each of them. 3 UK's INQ1 managed to get the title on its category due to the integration with Facebook and last.fm it sports, as well as its support for popular messengers like Skype and Windows Live Messenger.

T-Mobile's G1 handset and Nokia's E71 followed the INQ1 to the podium. As many of you might already know, the Android handset has been manufactured by HTC and went on sale with the mobile phone operator T-Mobile. At the same time, we should also note that the Android Platform is expected to be seen on several new devices this year, and that some of them have already been spotted. The Nokia E71 business targeted QWERTY all-in-one device has had its share of appreciation as well.

The Finnish mobile phone maker also managed to gain the Best Mobile Internet Service award for its Nokia Sports Tracker, an application that uses GPS to keep track of users' workouts, including jogging, running or cycling. The software solution is also based on networking, and all data can be shared with friends on a website, including route, speed and even pictures that one might take along the way.

Also worth mentioning is the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough award, which went to the SurePress screen of the BlackBerry Storm. The screen works like a hardware button, and offers users the possibility to hover over an item and also get physical feedback from virtual buttons, a feature that surpasses a major challenge touchscreens faced.

Undoubtedly, Storm has made the headlines a few times due to its issues, yet the capabilities of the touchscreen are able to provide leveraged experience to users. At the same time, touch displays are expected to see great addition in the future, and maybe we’ll be able to see even more interesting awards granted next year, especially with the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix, which is aiming at smaller players with pioneering products and services.
