Robert Pattinson doesn’t like the attention, that much is already known since he made it a point of voicing his discontent with the downside of fame on several occasions. In fact, Pattinson hates so much the kind of attention he’s getting from the media that he finds it ridiculous and overwhelming, as he reveals in a new interview cited by The Examiner.

According to the British star who has officially become the second best-looking vampire in the history of Hollywood (after Brad Pitt in “Interview with a Vampire”), as the media has dubbed him, he never wanted this kind of fame. All he dreamed of doing was to be an actor and star in movies, but, had he had a choice, he would have said pass on the fame game. Robert wishes he could simply do away with the interviews and especially the paparazzi, he says in his latest interview.

Take, for instance, his recent visit to Cannes, where he had to be carried outside a terrace by three bodyguards because he was mobbed by paps and fans. “I was having lunch on the Carlton’s beach when 700 people crowded together at the entrance to the restaurant of the beach. It was funny, in a way… I was carried by three bodyguards to a car parked in front of the restaurant. They were literally carrying me; I wasn’t touching the ground anymore! It was really, really weird!” Pattinson says.

And this kind of attention has only gotten more intense ever since “Twilight” was officially named the hottest teen vampire flick of recent times. With “New Moon” about to drop towards the end of the year, “Eclipse” currently in the works and plans for “Breaking Down,” the fourth film as well, Robert knows that this is only the beginning. He still wishes he could have a say on how much media exposure he gets, though, because, clearly, he should be allowed his privacy if he so desires.

“Everything has become more intense for six months, since ‘Twilight’ was released. It’s hard to handle what’s happening to me. I don’t have the necessary hindsight, even if only to find a way out to this situation. But this celebrity thing, you can’t fight it, it’s useless, you can’t avoid it. When it’s not something you desired during your whole life, or something you don’t aspire to, you’re free not to care about it. I didn’t sign for Disney. There’s not a stipulation which forces me to smile to the paparazzi.” Pattinson explains.

Of course, there are also many advantages to being famous, and the handsome actor could never forget about them. Still, at the end of the day, when he draws the line on what he’s missing out and what he’s getting extra for being a star, Robert would almost be tempted to say this is not a fair trade.
