Texas troopers made one of the biggest pot busts in state history by seizing 3.9 tons (7,800 pounds) of drugs on Tuesday, April 2.

The large amount of marijuana lying hidden in a tanker was found when an officer pulled the driver over in San Patricio County.

According to a rep for the Texas Department of Public Safety, quoted by the Independent, motorist Paul Anthony Simmons was stopped for a routine check.

"It's a big, significant seizure," their spokesperson comments.

Police have estimated that the contents of the truck, which can be observed in a photo take at the scene, are worth about $3.4 million (€2.6 million).

45-year-old Simmons, of Robstown, has been arrested and jailed on a $1million (€773K) bail. He is facing charges for possession of the controlled substance.
