Regions Hospital officials in St. Paul, Minnesota have announced that they have mistakenly set a second set of remains of a stillborn to a laundry.

News of the incident comes after Thursday's report on a body being recovered at the Crothall Laundry in Red Wing.

Hospital reps have put out a statement apologizing for their mistake and mentioning that both newborns were accidentally sent to the Red Wing cleaning service wrapped in linens.

Chief Nursing Officer Chris Boese tells CBS Minnesota that the second child was born at 19 weeks, while the first has a gestational age of 22 weeks.

“A tragic human error was made and we believe both sets of remains were mistaken as empty linens and placed in the laundry at the same time by a hospital worker,” Boese apologizes.

“There are no words to describe how deeply saddened we are and how sorry we are for this terrible mistake. [...] We have reached the family to apologize and offer any support that we can,” Regions president and CEO Brock Nelson adds.

“When there's a stillborn, we work very closely with the family, to understand how they would like to handle the remains of the baby.

“Sometimes they ask us to take care of that, and other times they take care of that,” Boese explained after the first body was uncovered on Wednesday.

Regions will be upping security measures and have already changed their protocol on identifying, tracking and monitoring stillborns' remains, a section of the clinic which will receive better supervising.

After the first incident of this sort, they mentioned that the child's body had been originally sent out to the morgue. Upon discovery, the stillborn had an ankle tag on and was lying between bedsheets.
