The 2nd generation Intel Core processor family is already powering a range of new computers which consumers will be able to buy soon.

Present at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Microsoft’s Ben Rudolph managed to get an Intel representative to talk a little about the second generation of Intel Core CPUs, developed using the Sandy Bridge codename.

Rudolph emphasizes that new Windows PCs powered by the Sandy Bridge processors will deliver an extra kick to users compared to the first generation of Intel Core chips.

In fact, there are a range of advantages that the new gen of Intel Core CPUs brings to the table.

“Intel had big news of their own at CES this year with the unveiling of their second-generation of Core processors, code-named “Sandybridge”.

“The new lineup is faster, smaller and lighter than ever before, meaning Core-powered Windows PCs will have better overall performance, smoother, faster video, and exceptional battery life,” he stated.

I’ve embedded a video put together by Rudolph from CES 2011 at the bottom of this article, so make sure to watch in order to hear about the advantages of the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family from employees of the chip maker.

In addition to Intel Core CPUs, Rudolph also had a look at the Atom processor which powers most of the netbooks available on the market.

“Anand Lakshmanan from Intel walked me through the new architecture and why consumers like you and me should care, and afterwards, Intel netbook category manager Cindy Ng took some time to show me what Intel’s doing to innovate in the netbook space. Short version? Lots,” Rudolph stated.

“As one industry insider told me this week “The new Core lineup might be the biggest thing in silicon since the debut of the original Pentium.” After seeing the new processors in action, I’m inclined to believe him.”
