2Wire MediaPoint Delivers Internet Content to TVs via Broadband

Broadband Internet has already become the content delivery solution of choice for numerous firms, and this trend will most likely become even more popular in the future. For this reason, the 2Wire company has launched the MediaPoint, a three-component system that allows users to browse, download and view DVD-quality video and movies, listen to streaming music, view and share photos, and even access personal networked media content, all directly on their television screens, using any broadband connection.

As mentioned earlier, the system provided by 2Wire sports three equally-important components: the MediaPoint digital media player, 2Wire Media Software, and the 2Wire Service Management System (SMS).

The MediaPoint digital media player is the hardware "backbone" of the entire system and it includes support for SD and HD content, SD and HD TV interfaces, wired and wireless network connectivity, internal storage, and USB expansion. It supports connections to televisions via HDMI, Component, Composite, and Optical Audio, and users can even customize the amount of available internal storage or the available connectivity options, should they desire to.

The next component, the 2Wire Media Software, sports an intuitive, provider-branded user interface that allows viewers to access all of the services and features we've mentioned earlier. It's also interesting to note that the software also includes UPnP AV and DLNA technology that automatically discovers media content stored on every networked device in the home and displays it on the TV for fast, easy access.

Finally, the 2Wire Service Management System (SMS) enables service providers to manage all aspects of their broadband entertainment services, including operator billing, account management, and content distribution and licensing systems. In this way, this solution can help users maintain costs at a low level while boosting the revenues of the providers.
