First of all such an excellent security tool and second valid for 3 yrs. Its a gem in security layers.
Very good detection rate in most of the tests.

Best thing is no nood to make rescue disk, it can boot up a linux env and scan every single file without loading windows.

Autopilot is another great thing in BDIS with out requiring user intervention for most of the times.

BitDefender is realy the first software that made me feel proud to be a Romanian. I`ve been using it since version 8 and never let me down. Currently, I am testing the 2012 Internet Security, because Total Security has alot of features I don`t plan to use(like Online Backup, Tune-up, and File Shredder). The new version seems lighter than ever and got great scores in AV-Comparatives test. The new interface is gorgeous ,classy and intuitive, but has plenty of advanced features to play around with. The firewall is customizable and the network monitoring features are useful. The scanning speed seems to have improved yet again. The new logo based on the Dacian Draco was a bold move and in my opinion, it was meant to tell the world that our IT industry is getting stronger. There are, of course, things that could be improved, like the auto pilot feature and they really shout provide a full offline installation kit along with that 846kb file that install-it from web.Also, it should provide options to install or not install some components, at least the anti-spam module or the parental control one. The price could have been smaller, but for a 3 year license it is a great investment. Hopefully , it will soon replace the 2011 version and get delivered as OEM with new computers. Keep up the good work, Softwin and BitDefender! Happy birth day, Softpedia !

Bitdefender is the best AV I have ever known, eventhough I have no idea about the firewall and other features. It detected every single malware thrown to it, on tests. It will be awesome to get a full license, for my laptop :)

Bitdefender - for me is synonymous with high performance and comprehensive protection. The program has an excellent anti-virus engine on its own production. With this engine used by programs such as F-Secure, or G-Data. It proves something.
The program is regularly ranked high in independent tests. Are high efficiency associated with large numbers of false positives? No! Bitdefender produces virtually no false alarms.
For novice users it was a great idea to add "Auto-Pilot", which does not display any messages requiring a decision, and automatically blocks any threats.
Another very important module is of course the firewall. How the Internet Security package, it is quite good and more than enough for home use. The program offers another excellent anti-spam, which is however only the most integrated with Thunderbird. Contrast to all browsers module is included anti-phisingowy! I love it. And the effectiveness of this module?
Excellent. The program is blocking nearly all the infected site.

Bitdefender is the best with very good antivirus engine, spam protection and behavior blocker. But it still needs to improve it's firewall. All in all, I feel nothing will get through it. Hope, I am lucky enough to have it for free for three long years.

Well its all arround a good security tool but does it protect from trojans, what if a trojan is inserted by a usb flash drive or a another proxy server, or remote computer even i have seen good security tools fail on these tests be4 so this does "SeeM" a good security tool but its real value i am yet to confirm any way im so sceptic cause some of the more cuning viruses have passed my previous security systems off the record even by kaspersky and nod 32 so i do hope this security tool is a notch above the rest and that it will provide where several others have failed.

Simple User and administrator also, of Bitdefender product since 2008, I have some comments:

- Bitdefender new products were, in the past, not realiable in the first month after they have been announced, and I was face to many instable computer....Oblige to uninstall, then re-install the whole product :-(

The last 2012's line of product "seems" OK for this point, more stable even if young !

- I have some negatives comment about the interface, that is changed in 2012. For final user, it "seems" more easy to understand, with new "ON/OFF" parameter choice, but for an administrator, new interface is less confortable then 2011...

Antivirus:
I do find the way to configure an automatic Antivirus analysis of my computer like it was previously possible ! seems to be automatic now, in background ?


Firewall:
- Some features like asking for a process to access Internet is now calling :"Paranoiac mode" and I search a lot before activate this option by miracle and get the result I want...

Autopilot:
There is a new option, "Autopilot".....! For which purpose ?

Update:
It seems impossible now to change the period of an update ! With previous release, I change it from 1 hour to 8 hours............Due to the impact on the computer during an update (Slow response time......)! This is not possible now, unfortunately....

Conclusion: 2012 product's seems more "user friendly", but less "administrator friendly" from my point of view...

I used to have Win32 Sality. It is a horrible virus that infects all executable files. I had an infection after downloading one file from the Internet. It was a fake installer TuneUp Utilities 2010. I tried different scanners, and antivirus but none of them did not eliminate the infection. But then I downloaded anti-virus which is called ""BitDefender"". After installation and reboot the computer scanned. BitDefender has detected many infections that have been deleted successfully. To be sure, I scanned the computer again - nothing was found. I took advantage of the other scanners that also have not found anything. Therefore I would like to win the program.
"What would I do if any of my valuable digital properties got hacked?
I would scan my computer right away using bit defender for any issues and use online scanning software as a form of a independent scan. Then change all my passwords so that I could close the breach or if passwords had been changed then I would try and use the password reminder to access my account or contact the company responsible for support.It would be a nightmare and annoying but using a little common sense and my trusty bit defender any issue can be overcome. I would then monitor my accounts for the next month to check there is no further issues.

I'm currently using a free AV with basic protection. Sometimes I encounter my pc hanging, slowdown or reboot itself which i suspect to be virus infection or malware. This version simply rocks. Wherever I look for AV testing results (they test actually more strictly than a regular user ever could), it's in the first place! The new UI is sci-fi like, i'd like to have a touchscreen for it, really (I don't have one :P). It's like a computer console in the sci-fi movies, really modern and cool.

It's amazing, finally an antivirus product that would not slow down your machine and is considered the best solution on the market (I recall the 2009 version, that was a disaster, it made your machine unusable). I'm proud to have a Romanian product, that's mainly made here in Romania, by romanians, and be the best on the market. Romanians will always be the best software developers, and this product clearly reflects that. Well done!!

My Trend Micro expired yesterday so this would be very timely and needed. I was waiting for another anti-virus program to come around so I could enter!

Its been years i had two best friend in my computer.

The first one is Softpedia, it started in 2006, at that time i use mac a lot for my project, whenever I'd like to find some info about Mac Os 9.1 new software and reviews, my old friend Softpedia is the place where I come for guidance. And then when i switch to PC, Softpedia is still the one i always consult with.

And for my second friend Bitdefender who always protect my pc since 2008, there is no other option i would choose for my protection. Even lately when there are some minor glitch in its 2011 firewall option which will go return to default "all known programs" option, but it still protect me very well, coz actually all known programs is safe programs. It was I who would like Bitdefender to always talk to me and choose whether i would like any software to use internet connection. When Bitdefender launch its version 2012 test activity, i was very regret that i missed that opportunity to give back to someone who had help me so much. Till now Bitdefender is always my best companion in my life.

Great giveaway!I used to install bitdefender internet security 2012 when it first comes out on around august. It has excellently simple interface and super fast quick scan (just about 20-25 seconds to complete a quick scan). Unfortunately, it slows down my internet connection speed and limit the download thread of my download manager to only 1 thread. I heard that this problem was eventually solved after few weeks.The other excellent thing about it is the update frequency. I received almost once update in every hour and the update process is simple and silent. autopilot mode though helps to make it become user-friendly,could be disabled indirectly when you enable paranoid mode( I experienced this when I play around with the setting of bitdefender internet security 2012). Nevertheless, it's still an excellent protection.

It's been year i have two best friend accompanying me and my computer.

Well my journey with Bitdefender began few years back when I used its free anti-virus program. I was so impressed by the product that last year I bough a single user license of Bitdefender 2011. Earlier, I was using Norton. What I hate about Norton is that its products are pricey (which according to PPP is very costly) and it slows down the system. But not Bitdefender. I read articles here very often, but rarely post any comment.
Bitdefender is one of the companies that continually improved over the time their product, and almost always managed to add new and inovative features. In the past none of my friends liked Bitdefender, because it kept asking a lot of questions(the firewall) which they didn't know how to answer, but now thanks to autopilot, I will prove them how easy is to use it.
Maybe they will even buy it :)
I used to have Bitdefender once in a while, but it kept expiring, so I got stucked with "strange" free Antiviruses...Maybe Softpedia will make our family computer be safe again..:)

Bit Defender - The only antivirus that was able to detect virus that I had in my system restore image about 3 years ago (Online virus scan).
The other 4 online scaners did detect nothing.
Sinse then I became a big Fun of Bit Defender, and its absolutly Number 1 for me.
I am using Free Security Software.But if I'll go for a paid
one it will be of course Bit Defender.

For me& Many users ,The antivirus/security software must fulfill all below demands:
1)speed:it should NOT slow down computer performances during realtime/idel priority scanning,easy and fast installation with no afterward restart
2)comprehensibility:it should recognize all(at least most) threats (specially removable media ones as anti threat softs are more ignorant of them in general)and be able to remove them , secure, fast and without distracting user from his/her current work(s)
3)update regularly (at least thrice a day),fast and have a little size ,have both offline and online database update availability
4)have a safe virtual environment(sandbox) to increase security for internet intruders/hackers
5)allow safe web surfing and site safety rating in an as easy,secure,fast as possible

I've been using BitDefender for a long time and now I use BitDefender 2012 to protect our 3 PCs in the house. It works very good on my Windows 7 laptop-no impact on performance! Knocked down KIS and installed BitDefender. And what was my surprise when he found out on my comp 23 more dirt! And so quietly removed them. 3 could not uninstall first, but on Windows 7 to fix the module running as administrator. This feature is built into the program. Excellent work! Treats all! System does not slow down! Compared with Kaspersky and Avast much better remove all the dirt in the form of rootkits (in KIS is special. Tool, but it is optional), and BitDefender has all the built-in. BitDefender - the best of the Antivir I have ever used!

A 'bit-different', but like to try it!

Never did one of these giveaway things on the internet that was legit. I'm expecting that once I submit my comment I'll either be directed to participate in some stupid survey for walmart or petsmart and if that doesn't happen, I'll be waiting on an email directing me to a site that does the same * survey for viagra or old people insurance. Currently, I'm using Avast for an anti-virus program which isn't bad but it seems like everytime I get on the computer, "Avast has updated your files" comes blaring across my speakers and scares the pee-water out of me. It looks as if this program has had some great reviews so in the event that this is legit, please consider me for your giveaway. Thank you.

Although we can Now-a-days obtain warez and pirated software easily,ialways opt for freeware.

Softpedia you are so generous!!! You had an amazing roll in past 12-13 days. All promotions featured the best programs in their category. I hope this October never ends! Bitdefender Internet Security is definitely one of the best protection programs. The new auto-pilot feature is great. Detection rate was always very good. But older versions of the program used to be little annoying because of a frequent need for user intervention. With auto-pilot feature turned-on this problem goes away. The only thing that I don't like is the fact that I must uninstall my Malwarebytes because Bitdefender won't tolerate it. But hey, with such a good antivirus maybe I won't be needing it anymore.

out of all the anti viruses i have used bit defender remains my favourite.

The latest release (the antivirus bit) gave my older laptop some issues but I wouldn't mind getting a 3 yr license hoping the overall product gets better soon with updates. There is nothing 'bit' about bitdefender, it takes a chunk outta malware, spyware, hackers and viruses.

Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 - Build:15.0.27.305

on XP professional with SP3

Pros:
1. Ability to do a custom install- select the installation directory/path + Provide proxy settings-if applicable
2. Option to send anonymous usage reports.
3. Has an option for "Enable P2P update". This is something very new & USEFUL. Now using this option you could do an update of Bitdefender using P2P (peer to peer) technology, instead of http.
4. Doesn't leaves debris after uninstalling. Just 153Kb, as per Revo.
5. Scans memory & critical system areas while installing.
6. Restart is NOT required after installation.
7. Each window in the main interface has its own process. Example if you open about, it will start a process about.exe. This helps to check memory leaks in my view.
8. One could configure what status alerts it should notify. Example if you already have some firewall and disable Bitdefender's firewall, just disable the notification for Firewall so that it wouldn't keep bugging you; unlike what happens in other Internet Security suites like KIS, FIS, NIS.
9. It has a Laptop mode which turns-ON automatically when Laptop is put to run on battery.
10. The description-mode (small ?-mark in the bottom right) is cool. If you click on ?, it shows a ? in-front of all those places where a description is available.
12. You could drag-drop the panels shown in the main interface.
13. A decent OFFLINE-Help manual is located here, file:///C:/Program Files/Bitdefender/Bitdefender 2012/support/offlinemanual/index.html
14. The Support Tools is a good one and creates a complete report to be sent to support. It also has an option to reproduce the problem. Report size for me was 654Kb.
15. Has 2 process running-bdagent.exe and pchooklaunch32.exe. I tried to end-task these, but it doesn't allows to do so.
16. No temporary files are left over after installation.



Cons:
1. Requires at least 1Gb RAM, else will show a warning while installation.
2. It tries to Download some installer - even when I have downloaded the 226Mb setup file. While without having internet connection it still completes downloading, this is very misleading and wrong. It seems it was downloading from the existing 226Mb file-which was already downloaded and available. This is most probably due to the fact that Bitdefender doesn't provides link for the complete setup, but just a few Kb file-which inturn downloads the setup. Should correct this.
3. System start time is increased.
4. Has a cool panel slider on the interface, but it's not clearly visible.
5. Fails to turn-OFF the Laptop mode, when Laptop is running back on power from battery.
6. When the Password-protection is off, it should not allow "Change Password", as there is no password set. But it does.
7. The main interface could only be closed to tray from the Interface X (close). If you try to right-click-close from the taskbar-it doesn't works.
8. Estimated scan time is wrong.
9. There is no way to revert back your changes, as it just goes ahead and makes the changes. No Apply or Ok button. So if you accidently make a change to some setting, there is no way to revert it back.
10. The tray icon shows WARNING:multiple issues are affecting the security status of this PC, but when I check the status of the issues-it's just one.
11. For some scans-it may take up to 100% CPU, process name:vsserv.exe
12. It was blocking the service for VMware Tools. Once I uninstalled it, the service loaded fine.
13. It doesn't have anything such as to disable ALL protection, which is usually found in every other Internet Security suite.
14. It reports a wrong status on update. Even if the update is actually not done, it fails to recognize it. Example if the PC is offline-update is run (and no use)-it assumes Ok that the update is done, rather than actually checking if a real update is done.
15. It mistook Fcleaner and WinRar as a malicious processes, and blocked them. Wierd.
16. The tray icon says "multiple issues are affecting the security status of this PC", while there is nothing showing as affecting in the interface and it's clean - there are no issues to fix.

The most important thing added to BitDefender is the behavioral monitor built into this suite which puts BitDefender well above the rest!

Well, what can I say?? Another great freebie offered by Softpedia team, which, as far as I'm concerned, can maybe be beaten by Norton Internet Security 2012 only (but I'm not 100% sure about it).

I used the trial version of this suite a few weeks ago and I can tell you that the best component I found in this awesome suite is definitely its antivirus module, as not only it deeply scans your system for known malicious codes, but also analyzes any possible critical (Windows) system vulnerabilities (Windows patches, infected browsers, weak passwords etc...), giving you even suggestions to update your PC in order to avoid being victim of exploits by hackers. And in fact it's not an accident that this antivirus got the top score among many others by the last Av Comparatives Certification, thanks to its high malware detection and low false positives rates, as well as its outstanding Social Networking Protection (through Bitdefender Safego program) and above all its outstanding Antiphishing module, absolutely the best in the market right now (I performed a personal test on this kind of online threat with many other antivirus porgrams...so I know what I'm talking about!!).

Another great feature of Bitdefender Antivirus Pro, as a part of this suite, is absolutely its Auto Pilot Mode which, unlike most AV programs out there, runs silently in the background keeping users from replying to annoying notifications asking permission for removing any possible detected threat found by the software.

And of course, if you add to the antivirus the other modules of this suite, namely the Antispam component, the Two-way effective Firewall, the Chat Encryption and the Parental Controls module, you can be pretty sure that anyone will no longer be able to gain access to your sensitive data via web forms, email and social networks accounts.

On the downside, I can say that, during my past tests, I noticed that this suite took a great deal of time before completing a full scan of my PC, not to mention that it used a massive amount of resources (especially CPU and RAM), which in the end slowed down my system quite a bit, especially when all its awesome modules were turned on.

So if you have a pretty old PC running with low resources, I discourage you to install this security suite unless you decide to turn off most of its effective modules, of course.

But, apart from this few glitches, I highly recommend this Internet suite to everybody who really cares of keeping snoopers out of their system while surfing the web.

So it would be great for me to win a license of this astonishing product.

i did use BitDefender products before and i have to say its one of the best security tool i ever used,its fast at detecting viruses,i got to know BitDifender through a friend when my PC got infected,there was no sound,and sometimes computer couldn't boot and it was very slow i couldn't use internet and i was thinking of buying another computer,then my friend told me to try BitDifender and then to my amazement it works,sound is back and my computer is fast,BitDifender is my favorite security tool.

I used BitDefender 2012 trial and feel it's better than BIS 2011.
BIS 2012 has some pros and con :

Pros :
- Of course, very high protection and detection against malware.
- Excellent firewall.
- User Friendly Interface
- Lower RAM usage and do not make my pc slow

However, BIS 2012 still has the con that is reduce my web browsing speed significantly.

If BitDefender solves the con above, I'm sure that BitDefender is the best antivirus program.

I especially like the autopilot mode & social networks protection feature as this is becomming more and more needful in antivirus apps. Bitdefender is very good detection of infection and combined with real-time protection as well as an efficient firewall and others. BitDefender is applies 3 levels of defense against antivirus threats. first level is to check for known virus signatures that BitDefender has already collected in the cloud and for which there is a known cure and level 2 is to detect unknown threats and isolate them in a virtualized environment. Once it has them corralled the software monitors whether the suspected file attempts to modify certain files and level 3 of defense, called active virus control watches each specific process that is running on my PC. But my friends and many people talk about this program.

I have never used bitdefender since the 9 and 10 versions. The versions after that always felt like they were a little hefty compared to the previous versions. Prior to using BDIS 9 & 10, I was using KIS 7; the main reason I switched to BD is because I always found that it was very efficient in finding spyware better than the others. I now use KIS 2011 and have been pretty happy with it but after checking the recent results from av-test.org, I wanted to switch to BD 2012. Would be great to win a free license.

I must say all bitdefender products comes with a big list of cons- Heavy on system resource, conflicts with other on demand scanners, system slowdown etc.
But inspite all these, it is going quite strong and regarded as one of the top security solution of the modern day. I won't deny the above cons of bitdefender but they have certainly improved quite a lot on their latest product line. I won't start reviewing the product here because you already did it and i am sure i can't do better than you but i can certainly add my experience after using it.
Honestly speaking i was never a bitdefender fan boy but with the latest version release and all the hype surrounding it, i couldn't stop myself from testing it.
Few testing showed that the detection rate has certainly improved from the last time. The streamlined look certainly adds a positive. It comes with an impressive set of features and uses an intelligent interface that is both suitable for inexperienced and advanced users. Another important point is it does all the work silently, so if you want to have a security suit which doesn't interfere with you work then this is the one to choose.

Well, I used to use (MY -as I called it) bitdefender from 2007 or so four quite a long
'premium' period, and I - well, yes, I used to change my firewalls more often than
my girlfriends, at that time (but I'll think about that :), and I am telling you: NEVER before my computer had ben running SO fast, working so smoothly with any application, no stops - just go,,, I think I was running through, let's say Central Park during the day flying past any kind of walkers, police officers, over stone or grass, over moms with babies, I mean ' moms' with babies (:-) uhm, lorries so, the fact is: my computer wasn't just too good four this
excellent program, so, after 2008, where my fibre glass internet connection got lost in the black finance hole-I wouldn't let anything but my own hands to my computer,,, but I'll think about that.....great program!!!! I will take that again and again, thank you.

I must admit that I have never been a fan of BitDefender security suites. They are cheap compared to the other top-suites, but I didn't like them because they slowed down my computer so much, that I couldn't even do my daily stuff on that PC. It's definitely not the case with this version 2012 - they got on the right path now, finally.

It has features that compete with other top-products, but at the fraction of the price, because you get license that can be used on up to 3 computers at the same time. I believe it can protect you from online threats.

When I was in "crysys", I've used their rescue CD quite a few times, to wipe out malware from my computer - of course that one was a free product, and didn't offer full-time protection.

but this is the best antivirus I have ever read on the internet, even though I own is a kaspersky user. but it does not mean that if I am allowed to try this antivirus, I would be very very grateful

BitDefender Internet Security 2012 Impressions

I have been using BDIS 2012 on and off for a couple of months and decided to share my experience. Before I installed BD 2012 I was running an evaluation of BD 2011 and some of the points below are comparison between 2011 and 2012 products.

There have been a lot of changes in the settings, with a number of options now missing. I suppose that explains why there wasn't an option to save/import settings as part of upgrading to 2012. Overall, the GUI has improved and it's a lot less complex now - you don't have to navigate through too many screens and dialogs.

1. Simplified settings for scans - either extreme confidence in the detection capabilities or a usability issue. Even the installer does this as part of the initial system scan - all you get is a notification that suspect file(s) have been removed. Nothing is placed in quarantine, there is no trace in logs, etc., just the usual, slightly "conspiratorial" BD behavior.

2. Gone are the numerous scan profiles. You can still create custom scans, but these have a lot of usability issues too. For example, the default name BD will give to a scan profile is the date and the sensitivity of the scan [Normal, Aggressive, etc.]. If you add this to your favorites [obscured process in itself, need to hover mouse over list entries, click a star], you can edit the name, but not the settings [folders to scan, sensitivity, etc.]. So you're better off creating and editing custom scans one-by-one, while remembering what was selected[?!]. As much as I remember, there's no way to delete a custom scan.

3. Removable media scans now start automatically - the prompt whether to scan an external drive or not is now gone, the only indication is a quick notification the drive will be scanned and the second BD icon [blue] in the notification area. Preemptive actions seem the order of the day for BD 2012.

4. A good point about the Firewall in Auto Pilot mode is that it will employ a "default-deny" policy - applications without rules will not be allowed to access the Internet. This is definitely better than the old Silent Mode, where the Firewall will switch to "Allow All" mode.

5. Missing also are the Script/Registry/Cookie control options in Privacy Control.

6. Browsing Security - ambitious departure from the security toolbars as know them. Using a handle is a welcome way to release real estate in the browser window. Wrapping pages after scrupulously scanning HTTP traffic [and throwing lots of CSS in the mix - web developers beware], utilizing host and cloud signatures for safer browsing experience, but at the cost of performance. While search results are displayed almost instantly, the link/page validation takes a long time - Search Results Analyzer is very slow. BD should take a leaf out of Avast and Norton and their minimalistic and efficient approach to page ranking - both are blazingly fast. I suppose BD has a way to go to fully start relying on its cloud services and need time to generate the repositories of their competitors.

7. Rescue Mode can cause issues with boot manager on dual-boot machines.

8. Deep Scan
There doesn't seem to be considerable gain in subsequent scans, it looks like the persistent cache either hasn't been built or isn't as effective compared to the likes of Avast and Norton. In a period of 3-4 days and over a few scans it improved by just over 21% in my case. Scanned more files, but the skipped items count actually went down? BD 2011, by comparison, could drop almost half of the scan duration over time, although over a much longer period [with skipped files reaching over 270 K]. So maybe I'm just a bit impatient?
Then, there are the highly inaccurate remaining time estimations, something I haven't experienced with BD 2011. For example, I've had estimated time left indicating that the full scan will take over almost 1562 hours!

9. Auto Scan

Although the name may suggest On-access scanning or Real Time Protection, it’s nothing like that. It’s a new type of scanning, very similar with an On-demand scan, but it is extremely light, nearly invisible as resource consumption. It quietly scans all your data for malware and takes the appropriate actions for any infection found. It only works when your PC is idle, or close to it. Auto Scan only initiates after one hour of computer up time.

How can it be tested?
As Auto Scan only uses a limited amount of resources, it can take quite a long time to finish so testing detection rate or the actions taken on malware is not very efficient. What you can test is the actual resource consumption and how responsive your PC feels when Auto Scan is on. It will be very helpful for us to know how to tune the resource pool in order to make it as unobtrusive as possible."

I would have expected Auto Scan to be instrumental in building the persistent cache by being run at idle, but this doesn't seem to be the case so far. It also has nothing to do with real-time scanning - It's just a light on-demand scan and interestingly enough you still get notifications that a Deep Scan hasn't been run, even if Auto Scan is ON. Makes you question the auto scanning scope and predefined options [sensitivity, objects to scan, etc].

I appreciate the fact that a scan is executed when my resource usage is low, and I haven't experienced any slowdowns because of it whatsoever - so it is definitely sensitive while attempting to be unobtrusive, but why not integrate it further and make future full scans faster and more effective?

10. Updating Software
BDAgent was crashing on updating software. I have experienced it with Firefox and Zemana AntiLogger, for example. After the crash, Internet access for the upgraded applications was blocked, but the Firewall wouldn't display a prompt [at least it blocked the access though]. This was with Firewall set to Paranoid. Manually adding the rules allowed access for these apps. Restarting was the other option to start getting prompts again. This to me was the biggest drawback so far.

11. Other
Intermittent settings changes
Active Virus Control would quite often change sensitivity to Normal from Aggressive, and the events entries are very "monosylabic" - not a great deal of information as to what may have caused this. On-access scanning would also change levels - I'll set it on Aggressive and it will switch to Custom - obviously a predetermined switch based on another event, but the logs wouldn't say what exactly.

It was this ultra-intricate, complex and encapsulated logic that took a bit too much of the control out of my hands and made me question the protection quality with the initial BitDefender 2012 builds.


But I played with the BitDefender 2012 again a few days ago and after updating to 15.0.31.1282 it's running a lot smoother now. Even the BD toolbar didin't seem to slow browsing as much as it did before. And my perception has definitely improved - I appreciate and enjoy BitDefender a lot more now, instead of just suspiciously looking at it.

Whereas Firewall settings could prevent from engaging the Auto Pilot before [e.g. if FW is set in Paranoid mode, attempting to turn AP ON wouldn't work, but there was no feedback why. Usability issues again, after all, the logic was already in place and working, by the look of it, it would not be that hard to display a popup or balloon notification to explain a behavior which may be perceived as a defect], it is performing very logically now and turning the Auto Pilot ON will manipulate the FW settings accordingly [and vice versa]. What I'm happy and relieved with is the fix of the BD Agent crash when updating software - all is working as it should, no crashes, no disabled Internet access for the updated applications, only the expected prompt that they have changed and whether to keep the existing rules or not.

Bottom line - granularity and fine control options lost, the intention and focus for this release seem to have been on improving ease-of-use and overall dependability. Most of the usability issues have been fixed, and the user experience got even better. GUI is down to Intermediate View of BD 2011 and exhibits some sluggishness [compared to BD 2011] . Maybe a bit too dark and too matte for my liking, some of the screens resemble IObit products.

Idiosyncratic excellence - good intentions for even more protection layers [Virtualized Browser, etc.], affected initially by performance and usability issues. I expected this to really be technological "tour-de-force" and a proof that BitDefender can optimize their products and speed them up to the level of F-Secure, for example. Although the protection is excellent, BD 2012 is still capricious and petulant at times. Compared with the ease-of-use and intrinsic cohesiveness of Norton, Avast and Kaspersky, for example, BitDefender still requires a bit more of a dedicated effort.

It is definitely getting to where it should have been when released, shame it is happening too slow and with a lot of headaches for their customers.

And yet, despite all this, BitDefender is running really fast and with minimal impact on system performance, the detection continues to be very strong [it's no coincidence that the AV module is being licensed to other, also top performing products, such as F-Secure and TrustPort] and I'd be happy if I could get a license.

Bitdefender internetsecurity is one of the worst and the best i have used. Its 2011 version was flawless but only prob its AVC used to quarantine my reliance netconnect software. The 2012 version was bad it always hung up at install 0% but a quick chat with bitdefender technical support the problem is resolved. Bitdefender has one of the best customer support. I also tested bitdefenders firewall which was very strong. I also like that traffic light is cross browser the only crossbrowser link scanner. Way to go bitdefender. Hope i win a key.

I am using BitDeffender 2010. Hope to get a new version!

I had used BitDefender before, never faced any problem then. Switched to Kaspersky, just for some change, have no problems now. I've learnt BitDefender is a bit heavy than KIS (I only speak the truth...) but with the modern day computers, memory ain't the limiting factor now. My Kaspersky yearly subscription is going to end in a few days. Thinking of trying out F-Secure but if this giveaway should save me a few bucks, I would happily take it... BitDefender protects every "bit" of information and that makes it one of the leading, trusted brands of Internet Security.

BitDefender Internet Security 2012 is an excellent security package. Extremely good detection rates, speedy performance and superb cleanup abilities. This is the package to have this year for certain.

I have been wondering how Bit Defender stacks up, I use Avast's Security Suite, good but not perfect. Definitely would give it a serious inspection!

For one, I love the GUI and many features. This beast of a security solution is years ahead of its competition, not in terms of application features (we all have seen these in many products), but their persistent approach in delivering to the needs of the consumer. My plea for giving me a license is that I have never actually had bitdefender, I only read and have seen many screenshots of it. Though, as my general attitude to personal av and security products is one of apathy, I do guarantee this; I'll extend my license with pleasure. So that's my advantage, I am not here for the ride of one year, I sincerely would love to try a full no restrictions antivrus/firewall solution, and always stay away from trials for that particular reason in many products.
