Conservationists are bending over backwards trying to save elephants and rhinos from going extinct but, by the looks of it, poachers are quite gifted when it comes to bypassing existing rules and regulations, and making sure that they get what they want.

Recent news from South Africa says that, since the beginning of 2014 until present day, a total of 277 rhinos were killed and stripped of their horns by poachers operating in this part of the world.

According to Times of India, over 50% of these deaths were documented in Krueger National Park, which happens to be a protected area. More precisely, it is said that, by the end of March, 166 rhinos living in this region had already been killed by poachers.

Oddly enough, this happened despite the fact that high officials in South Africa ordered that troops be sent to Krueger National Park in order to protect these animals, the same source informs.

When compared to the number of rhino deaths reported in South Africa during the same time frame in 2013, this year's body count is nearly 30% higher, conservationists and high officials say.

Looking to solve this crisis, South Africa has entered a partnership with Mozambique. Since most of the poachers who hunt in South Africa take the horns to Mozambique before exporting them, it is believed that, should the latter enforce strict legislation, rhinos would be a tad safer.
