It can automatically adjust to best show detailed graphics

Conventional monitors are all well and good, and even the best gaming displays don't actually need to cover the entire available color gamut possible for a product such as this, but the situation changes when it's professional photography, video editing and graphics design that you're doing.

In those situations, display makers have to go above and beyond the (normal) call of duty and implement an RGB color system that reproduces color as close to the natural range as possible.

Since all colors on a screen are combinations of Red, Green and Blue light, it's impossible to be totally true to the colors of the real universe. White LED and adding yellow (Y) to the RGB spectrum helps, but it's still not perfect.

BenQ's new BL2711U high resolution monitor only has the normal RGB color system, but it's well enough optimized and coded that it can cover 100% of the RGB color space, unlike other screens which only offer 80-90% or so.

The newcomer has a diagonal of 27 inches and a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, hence the 4K rating. That's a lot of pixels.

Since the panel is of the IPS variety (in-plane switching), the display has viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically.

It doesn't even trade response time for it. In fact, the 4 ms response time is better than for most IPS screens, and a fair few TN ones (5 ms is average, the lower the better).

Then there's the DCR (dynamic contrast ratio) of 20,000,000:1, although the static, typical ratio is still the good old 1,000:1. On that note, the brightness is a pretty solid 300 cd/m2.

All in all, the BenQ  BL2711 ultra high resolution monitor is about as good as you'd expect from a professional graphics design/editing display. The only thing that could ruin it for us is if the refresh rate was too low.

However, with DVD-DL, HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, the refresh rate should turn out to be 60 Hz via DisplayPort at the very least. Higher for any resolution below 4K, though it would defeat the purpose of acquiring the monitor in the first place.

Availability and pricing

The BenQ BL2711U 4K monitor, complete with a headphone jack, a pair of 3W speakers and a USB 3.0 hub, plus the ability to activate a CAD/CAM Mode at any time (alters color and contrast settings to view high-detail graphics info), will sell with an adjustable stand for an yet unknown price. Auto-Pivot will rotate the content based on how you move the monitor (kind of like smartphones and tablets do).
