The WQHD display uses an IPS panel and has a power draw of 55W

Another day, another monitor. Even with special launch events the likes of AMD GPU'14 going on, the rest of the industry continues to move on with its life one step at a time. Iiyama, for example, has launched a new monitor.

Said monitor is called ProLite XB2779QS and, though it will be confined to Japan, at least for a time, it will make many wish that was not the case.

After all, this is no normal PC display. Sure, it isn't one of those amazing 4K-capable ones either, and it also doesn't support 3D, but it does get some better-than-average features.

One of those features is the native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (or WQHD as it is widely known). Clearly, Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) is no longer enough.

Since we're on the subject, the display panel is an AH-IPS LCD, with viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically.

The LED lighting system is the part responsible for the brightness of the screen, and isn't all that special as far as LEDs go. There's the usual power efficiency benefit compared to CCFL of course, but nothing beyond that.

At least not without the Eco Mode technology coming into play. Iiyama seems to have been particularly focused on this area, enabling no fewer than three modes.

Eco Mode 1 cuts power by 5.4%, Eco Mode 2 by 19.3%, and Eco Mode 3 by 30.9%. It will fall to users to decide which is best. Since brightness is reduced further on each one, the ambient light will play a key role there.

Other specifications of the Iiyama ProLite XB2779QS include a stand with basic tilt support, a response time of 5ms (GTG), and dynamic mega contrast ratio.

All in all, not that bad for a product with a piano-black glass screen and brushed aluminum bottom accent.

Iiyama's ProLite XB2779QS has a price of 79,800 JPY, which corresponds to $800 / €591 - €800.
