Earlier today, Greenpeace announced that, following a new round of hearings in court, bail was granted to 26 of the 30 environmentalists arrested in Russia back in September.

“Court hearings in St Petersburg now over for today. 26 of 30 now granted bail and 5 of those are out of jail,” the organization writes on its official website.

Despite agreeing to let the environmentalists get out of prison on bail, Russia has not yet dropped the hooliganism charges it has filed against them.

This means that the Arctic 30 risks returning to prison in the not-so-distant future, and spending several years behind bars. Hopefully, this will not be the case.

As reported on several occasions, the activists were jailed after two of them scaled an oil platform operated by Gazprom. The environmentalists were protesting drilling in the Arctic.
