Once launched in the US, singing competition The Voice spread to other countries as well, slowly gaining in popularity and even surpassing rival shows like X Country’s Got Talent, X Factor, or even American Idol in the US.

And it’s not surprising that this happened, since the gist with The Voice is that contestants are selected after several rounds of blind auditions, when the judges / coaches sit with their backs to the person singing and decide whether they want them on their team based on their vocal performance only.

This is how the most amazing thing came to happen the other night on The Voice Italy: meet Sister Cristina, who is a 25-year-old nun from Sicily with a voice powerful and versatile enough to allow her to cover Alicia Key’s “No One,” which is a notoriously tough song to perform.

Sister Cristina came to the audition with other nuns, who were cheering for her (and crying tears of joy) backstage. All four judges, rapper J-Ax, Noemi, Piero Pelù, and Raffaella Carrà, turned around and tried to get her on their team.

J-Ax, who was the first to turn his chair around, actually burst into tears during the performance and shed a few more later, when Sister Cristina told them about her decision to audition, “I have a gift and I’m giving it to you.” She chose to be on his team.
