Admittedly, there is only one thing that can make Chuck Norris cry and that is the mere sight of Jack Bauer. The jury might still be out on who’s the meanest of the two, but, for the time being, it would seem that a ruptured cyst is what can get Bauer himself, as production on the popular show “24” came to a halt to allow star Kiefer Sutherland to undergo surgery, the Los Angeles Times informs.

As per the report, the rupture occurred earlier last week, but production on the show continued without the star until the end of the week. It was then that it was decided to put everything on hold to allow Sutherland to undergo surgery and fix the problem, instead of waiting until shooting wraps, which would have meant another six weeks of being on the set.

“While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now as a precaution as opposed to six weeks from now when production wraps. He looks forward to returning to work next week,” Sutherland’s spokesperson, Evelyn Karamanos, said in a statement to the LA Times, confirming rumors that, indeed, the star would be away for a week and production on the show shut down.

20th Century Fox also confirmed that production has been halted for the time being, saying in a separate statement things should go back to normal in a short time. “We are temporarily suspending production of ‘24’ while our friend and colleague Kiefer Sutherland undergoes a medical procedure. We hope to resume production shortly and do not anticipate any disruption in the broadcast of this season’s episodes,” the statement from the studio reads.

Hopefully, all will go according to plan and the airing of the current season will not undergo any modifications. Last summer, it emerged that Sutherland was the highest paid actor in television at the time for his portrayal of Jack Bauer, making an estimated $550,00 for each episode of the successful series.
