Google has updated aerial imagery for 23 cities in Google Maps. People in 14 US cities and 9 international ones can now explore their home towns from a bird's eye perspective.

Aerial imagery is a step up from satellite imagery that, while fairly detailed, can't go too close to the ground. What's more, aerial imagery provides a much better perspective since it's shot at 45 degrees, rather than the top down look of satellite photos.

With aerial imagery, you can check out interesting locations and buildings from all sides. Google has been providing aerial imagery for many places around the world for several years now, but there are still plenty of places to cover. With the latest update, there are now less.

"Heidelberg is a university town in southwestern Germany, located at the Neckar river. A former residence of the Electoral Palatinate, Heidelberg is popular among travellers for its historic city center and castle ruins of red sandstone in a mix of architectural styles," Google described one of the locations included in the latest imagery update.

Here's the full list of cities with new aerial imagery in the US: Charleston-Folly Beach, SC; Lee’s Summit, KS; Lexington, SC; Magna (Salt Lake City), UT; North Charleston, SC; Pine Island Center, FL; Plymouth, MN; Salinas CA; Santa Rosa, CA; Shawnee, KS; South Hill, WA; Spanish Springs, NV; Killeen, TX; Decatur, AL.

Eight European cities were added as well, Torrelavega, Pamplona, San Sebastian, Bailen and Ponferrada in Spain, Rolle in Switzerland and Wachtberg and Weinheim in Germany.

Finally, Buenos Aires, Argentina is the only city in South America to be included in the update.

"Located along the estuaries of the RÍo de la Plata, Buenos Aires is the largest city in Argentina and the second largest metropolitan area in all of South America. Founded in 1536, the city is recognized for its eclectic Italian and Spanish-influenced architecture and rich cultural life," Google wrote about the South American city.
