Authorities in Spain have uncovered a monster wasp nest hidden in an abandoned house. Police investigated the incident following reports on wasps in the neighborhood.

Upon entering the residence in San Sebastián de la Gomera in the Canary Islands they were shocked to find literally millions of insects inside.

The frightening sight, caught on camera and relayed by Think Spain, gives me an idea of how the officers who first came across the scene must have felt after opening the door.

The nest, measuring 22 feet (6.7 meters), could not have been built by your garden variety wasp, experts say.

These particular insects were probably imported from Morocco, as the Canary Islands are located some 100 km (62 miles) from the African continent.
