Not long ago, doctors in India operated on a 7-year-old girl and pulled as many as 202 teeth from her gums. The intervention was performed in late October at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, but the story is just now going viral.

It is understood that, although the surgery she underwent a few weeks ago was not exactly an easy one, the girl has since made a full recovery. Thus, her life has pretty much returned to normal. Except for the fact that her horrific experience is making headlines, that is.

Nobody knew the girl had over 200 teeth in her mouth

By the looks of it, neither the girl's mother nor any other member of their family managed to figure out what was bothering the 7-year-old when she started complaining about how her gums were hurting earlier this year.

When things took a turn for the worse and the girl's mouth became swollen, her mother, identified as a businesswoman living in India's Gurgaon district, decided that it might not be such a bad idea to take her to see a doctor.

At first, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi were a wee taken aback by the girl's peculiar symptoms. It was only after they used X-rays to have a look inside her gums that they figured out what the problem was.

In a nutshell, they found that the girl's gums were home to dozens of teeth that had no business being there. “It was shocking to see such a complex situation in the minor's mouth,” Dr. Ajoy Roychoudhary said in a statement,” as cited by News.

Removing the teeth was by no means an easy thing to do

To remove the dozens of unwanted chompers from the 7-year-old girl's mouth, doctors had to operate on her. As mentioned, they pulled a total of 202 teeth from her gums. The intervention lasted about 2 hours and, not at all surprisingly, wasn't exactly a walk in the park.

Thus, the surgeons who operated on the girl say that they had to be really careful when removing the teeth to make sure that they would not damage the 7-year-old's jaws, maybe even cause them to break. Luckily, the intervention proved successful.

The girl is now back home with her family, and according to her mother, is no longer in pain. Besides, she does not seem to have any trouble chewing her food. Long story short, the 7-year-old has made a full recovery.

Don't freak out, but this wasn't a world record

This might come as a bit of a shock to some people, but the fact of the matter is that the 202 teeth pulled from this girl's mouth by doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi do not make a world record.

On the contrary, it was earlier this year when a 17-year-old boy had an impressive 232 teeth removed from his lower jaw alone. This incident happened in India as well, and the boy has since recovered from the surgery.

It is understood that both the girl and the boy ended up accommodating for way too many teeth in their mouth as a result of a condition known as complex composite odontoma. This condition is very rare and causes abnormal tissue growth.
