14 DAY TRIAL // Towards the end of last year, leaked renders and a video were said to feature the upcoming Moto X (2017) phones, but it later turned out to be the Moto G5 Plus, which received an official unveiling at MWC in February.
But Motorola is still working on a new Moto X smartphone and new pictures allegedly reveal the upcoming device. The images were posted by a reliable leakster, but they were taken down in the meantime.
The four images show a curved, full metal body for the supposed Moto X (2017), together with a dual-camera setup on the back. The main camera’s design is quite similar to that of Moto G5 phones, with a circular bump and LED flash at the bottom. The logo found on the original Moto X is on the back of the 2017 iteration, while the fingerprint sensor is located on the front panel.
Mid-range specs, similar to Moto Z Play
The 2017 Moto X model is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 625 platform and feature 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, although other memory versions could be announced too.
The screen on the upcoming smartphone might have 5.5 inches, while information about pixel resolution is unknown at this point. If the specs sound familiar, it’s because they’re shared with Motorola’s Moto Z Play, announced last year.
The phone had the same Snapdragon platform, RAM capacity, display size and even storage capacity, but it lacked a dual-camera setup on the back. Surely, the main camera will be the most appealing trait of the Moto X (2017), but there aren’t any details about the sensors’ resolution at this point. Another major difference between the two phones is the fact that the Moto Z Play offers modular functionality, while the leaked Moto X images don’t reveal any pins on the back of the device.
Seeing how Motorola announced the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus just last month and a new Sapphire Blue color is in the works, we don’t expect the new Moto X (2017) to see a launch date any time soon.
