Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Inc. and Columbia Pictures Industries teamed up with Glu Games to release the official game of “RoboCop: the movie” on iOS platforms, which you can now download for free on your iDevice and start defending the citizens of 2028 Detroit.

The new RoboCop movie may look infinitely better than the original, mainly thanks to advancements in CGI, but the plot remains unchanged.

“In 2028 Detroit, when Alex Murphy, a loving husband, father and good cop is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer.”

“Join the OmniCorp program to become RoboCop, the ultimate law enforcement officer! Battle human crooks, robot enemies and learn how to defend the citizens from the corrupt streets of Detroit.”

Players will be able to step into RoboCop’s iconic armor and shoot their way through training simulations, use drone strikes to take out infamous gangs while saving hostages, and defeat robot enemies from the original motion picture (EM-208 and the ED-209).

Clear out your missions and you’ll be able to upgrade your weapons and robotic suit with the latest gear developed by OmniCorp, such as the scanning ability to spot hidden targets.

Glu Games Inc. is offering everyone the chance to download RoboCop for free, but also notes that “you can choose to pay real money for some extra items, which will charge your iTunes account.”

To advance effortlessly through the game, some in-app purchases will be required, which is why you want to disable in-app purchasing in the iOS Settings pane if your kids do the playing.

The developer also notes that iPod touch (4th-generation) device models are not supported. The full list of compatible devices, including the minimum software requirement, can be found on the game’s iTunes page.
