2012 Olympics Get Wii Sports as New Trial

- No baseball included though...

By: Alexandru Stanescu, Editor, Gaming Reviews (Consoles)

The 2008 Beijing Olympics haven't yet started and already we're talking about the 2012 edition. As strange as it may seem, we'll see Wii Sports as part of the competitions included in the Olympic challenges, according to the International Olympics committee president, Jacques
Rogge.

Wii Sports has just been officially welcomed into the olympic competition, specially because it's famous among children and had a great impact on gaming and the people's health. It's the way of the future if you ask me, as probably by 2030 we'll only be participating in gaming Olympics, instead of the standard sweat-breaking competitions. Of course, not all the titles included in Nintendo's famous sports pack made it to the official challenge, as baseball was left out.

I really loved Jacques Rogge's explanation on this matter, good enough to make you smile: "Baseball is dead to us. All forms of it. Seriously, if baseball was dying on the side of the road in the middle of a desert and I knew no one else would be driving by for days, I still wouldn’t pick it up. I hate baseball.", as reported on console-central.com. Sorry if the baseball fans feel offended right now, but this matter is not totally true... I'd say that baseball is second only to tennis among Wii Sports fans, at least the folks I know personally.

Is nobody surprised to hear this decision? I mean, adding a game to an official sports competition? And what about the Eye Toy? Sony's cool device and the games it supports are as worthy of being in such a competition as are Nintendo's hits. Hmm, call me paranoid, but I can sense that someone's been getting a pretty big sponsorship for the Olympics... Did Nintendo pay its way into the 2012 event? What do you think?
