2010 Could See New Global Temperature Record

The Earth will reach its highest temperature in instrumentally recorded history in 2010

Scientists from the United Kingdom's Met Office reveal that global temperatures may hit their highest peaks in recent history in 2010. This event will take place as a direct result of the growing concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. Though some still choose to remain blind to the surrounding reality, it's becoming increasingly clear that, if action to mitigate global warming and climate change is not taken, then we could experience a lot more of these record highs within our lifetimes, the BBC News reports.

The long-term temperature average for Earth, as estimated through numerous studies looking into the planet's past, is of 14 degrees Celsius, or 57.2 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the Met Office, 2010 could see global temperatures rise as high as 14.58 degrees Celsius, or 58.24 degrees Fahrenheit, a full 0.58C (1.04F) increase. Given that the maximum allowed limit for temperature rise before all glaciers melt is of two degrees Celsius, the forecast is very bleak. It basically means that we have already passed more than 25 percent of our alloted pollution levels, before they backfire with significant consequences.

The main “engines” behind the estimated increase are men-made global warming and a slight warming of the Pacific Ocean, one of the largest bodies of water on Earth. “The latest forecast from our climate scientists shows the global temperature is forecast to be almost 0.6C above the 1961-90 long-term average. This means that it is more likely than not 2010 will be the warmest in the instrumental record that dates back to 1860. A record warm year in 2010 is not a certainty, especially if the current El Nino was to unexpectedly decline rapidly near the start of 2010, or if there was a large volcanic eruption. We will review the forecast during 2010 as observation data become available,” a statement from the Office says.

The Met Office and the University of East Anglia are part of a group that keeps one of the three global temperature records today. Their estimates, as well as those elaborated by the other two groups, are used as a basis by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the main authority the United Nations have on global warming. The data is employed to inform policies at a global level, and is among the main datasets used by parties at the 2009 UN Climate Change Summit, currently held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

How can you forecast these temperature increases when 2009 saw record decreases in global temps? Check out the science of sun spot activity and you can come up to speed on the real factors affecting gobal temperatures. CO2 does not cause temp to rise rather it is the result of rising temps. Stop the pseudo climate science.

Considering your sources' track record for honesty, the bullish tone of your article seems rather hollow. I'm open to the idea that we might be contributing to global warming, but it seems more likely that it's largely a natural process with minor human influence.

Let a novice understand this. This report is based on data that was formed at the UEA. The very same data that has been manipulate, falsified and altered to project the outcome one wants. The very same data that can not be verified or reveresed programmed because the original data has been "dumped and destroyed"?

I have included some of the comments the coders used in their climate model programming sub routines. It is quite eye opening regarding the fraud used in getting the results they desired.

Could you experts please explain to a science is for dummies person how CO2 is a now a dangerous gas? Does the plants and tress know that?

Common sense tells a person that if a entity or organization can tax and control one of the four elements needed for life on this planet it controls humanity That is the bottom line. You do not need a P.H.D. to understand that.

As Einstein said many years ago "Science can only determine what is, but not what shall be as it is beyond its realm", The very models they are using with BLANTANT manipulation can not even get that right. LOL. This is the biggest con job ever projected on humanity. Even your credibility is now open to question.

Surely this article is meant to be parody ? In the midst of record cold around the world, and as the climate-gate unravels, there are still people trying to pretend that AGW is real ? I guess we will have to wait another few years before they all give up and start a new "panic."

I have been keeping track of temperatures on my farm now for 15 years and i can honestly say that the trend in my neck of the woods is definitely cooler not warmer. An old mate of mine who was a very keen gardener and who had kept temperature and rainfall data for his area for more than 40 years thought that it was cooler now than what it should be.........

Sorry, it's a myth. 125K years ago the earth was approx 3-5 degrees C higher than it is today. The earth is known to go in cycles between hot and cold variations in what is considered the "normal" temperature of the earth. If global warming does exist, please explain how this is the 9th coldest winter in Pittsburgh since 1860?

Poor science. The claim that this year is half a degree warmer than the long-term average has no cause/effect link to man-made global warming.
Also, your description of the Pacific
Ocean as "one of the largest bodies of water on Earth" only leads me to wonder which bodies might be larger.
