Apple launches 2009 "Back to School" program

Apple has kicked off this year's Back to School promo with the announcement that students in the US can buy a Mac and iPod touch at the same time to qualify for an online rebate. Individuals that are eligible to purchase a Mac using the Apple education discount include any employee of a public or private K-12 institution in the US, Faculty members and staff of Higher Education institutions, as well as Higher Education parents.

“If you’re a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac before September 8, you can get a free iPod touch. No wonder they call these the best years of your life,” Apple says. “With iPod touch, you can email your classmates, download hundreds of educational apps, and enjoy thousands of podcasts, lectures, and videos from iTunes U. Of course, you can also play games, surf the web, watch movies, and get directions to the pizza place,” the company states on its website.

As noted above, the following individuals are eligible to purchase a Mac using the Apple education discount and get a free iPod touch after rebate:

• K-12: Any employee of a public or private K-12 institution in the United States is eligible. In addition, school board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are eligible. PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers are eligible. • Higher Education: Faculty and staff of Higher Education institutions; and students attending, or accepted into a Higher Education institution are eligible to purchase. Purchases from the Apple Store for Education Individuals are not for institutional purchase or resale. • Higher Education Parents: Parents purchasing on behalf of their child, who is a student currently attending or accepted into a public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States, are eligible to purchase.
