The 12th Annual GSM Association Global Mobile Awards were announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona at a spectacular event that showcased the best of the mobile world.

The show was hosted by the inimitable comedian Clive Anderson and represented a celebration of the new creative forces in the mobile world. Compared to the previous year, the 2007 edition recorded 20 percent more entries.

The two-phase evaluation and judging process for each entry was carried out by a judging panel including some of the most distinguished journalists, analysts and academics which focus on the mobile industry.

Rob Conway, GSMA CEO, said: "The Global Mobile Awards provide a tantalising view of the future of our industry. We had a record number of applications for this year's awards. In fact, we had 600 submissions spanning a breadth and depth that is truly amazing, reflecting the new era of mobile. In this new era, we are rocketing to three billion mobile connections, and this growth is being driven by innovation in new services, applications and ever richer mobile content. My congratulations to the winners."

The GSM Awards are seen as being the Oscars of the mobile industry, rewarding those whose achievements provide an insight into the services, devices and innovation that are taking the mobile industry forward.

Samsung's SGH-D900 was designated best GSM mobile handset while the Sony Ericsson K800 Cybershot phone landed the title for best 3GSM mobile handset or device.

The best made for mobile game title was awarded to i-Play's The Fast and the Furious : Tokyo, a highly popular mobile game that also won the "Best Racing/Driving Game" of the year title awarded by IGN Wireless last year. You can find a complete list of the award winners here.
