Some of the dogs were in really poor shape, needed medical attention

About 200 beagles locked away in a laboratory at the Instituto Royale in San Roque, Brazil were rescued by animal rights activists last week.

Apparently, the whole conundrum started when some dog lovers learned that pooches were being abused by people working in this laboratory, and gathered in front of the Instituto Royale to voice their complaints against the practice.

It did not take long for others to join them and, soon enough, the crowd of protesters grew to 150 people, Ecorazzi reports.

Some of the protesters managed to enter the laboratory, and freed whatever beagles they found locked in cages.

Information shared with the public says that some of the dogs were in really poor shape, meaning that they had tumors and were badly injured.

What's more, it appears that one of them had somehow lost its eyes. They were rushed to veterinary clinics, and will hopefully soon start feeling better.

Odds are that, at some point, the rescued beagles will be put up for adoption.

The same source tells us that, in the aftermath of this incident, the laboratory has been shut down. An investigation is to be carried out in the weeks to come.
