It goes to show how blurry the line between tablets and laptops is

Between the prediction for a 70% increase in laptop orders and the promise that ultrabooks would sell for under $500 / €500 this year, we are not surprised to see further news coming from this segment of the industry.

Most recently, a report was made about the first quarter of 2013 and how 20% of all notebooks shipped during the period (January-March) were the type that had touchscreens and could convert from laptop to tablet form factor.

Hinge makers have been having a field day meeting orders, though they've had to prevent technology leakage too.

All in all, it is a surprising turnaround considering that the prices of these laptops are higher than for regular ones, beyond what is added by the hinges themselves.

Given the projected increase in touch laptops in general, the amount of shipped convertibles can only go higher from here.
