Windows 8 and 8.1 are slowly but surely gaining traction and new statistics provided by Valve for the month of December 2013 show that both modern platforms are attracting more users.

At this point, Windows 7 64-bit continues to top Valve’s Steam charts with a share of 50.62 percent, download 1.14 percent from November 2013, while the 32-bit version of the OS comes second with 12.34 percent.

The good news is that Windows 8 64-bit now powers 10.65 percent of the desktop computers running Steam, while the share of 8.1 64-bit jumped to 8.54 percent.

The overall market share of computes running either Windows 8 or 8.1 reached 20.06 percent, which is clearly a new record and a really good sign for Microsoft, as Redmond continues to invest big in these particular platforms.

Unfortunately for Windows XP users, the overall Steam share of the aging OS is continuously dropping, with the 32-bit version currently being used by only 6.01 percent of Valve gamers.
