2013 may have been the year of ultra high-definition television sets, but UHD monitors are set to skyrocket in sales too, now, according to analysts.

Market research firm NPD DisplaySearch believes that, now that average selling prices are falling, UHD monitors will ship by the thousands.

Thus, in 2014, the UHD monitor market may reach 2 million shipments, despite the fact that the overall monitor demand is going down (133 million is the unit forecast for the year).

Computer graphics, photo processing, CAD/CAM, and multi-operation environments are where the 3840 x 2160 pixel displays will prove most useful.

Lenovo, LG, Samsung, Sharp, AUO and Innolux all have models on sale, or soon will.

The average price of UHD monitors is of $1,347 / €995 now, but it should drop to $927 / €685.
