When it comes to fashion and accessories, there is only one rule that holds true no matter what: there are shoes, and there are IT shoes. The latest pair from Louis Vuitton, priced at a whopping $2,200, definitely falls in the latter category. Meet Spicy (or Spicy Sandals), the home-made shoes that have gotten all celebrities dying to try them out, from Madonna to Heidi Klum and, of course, Victoria Beckham.

This pair is so crazy that only owning one (without actually wearing it) puts you in a league entirely of your own, it has been said. Spicy Sandals are fresh off the catwalk and, consequently, bring about a very specific sense of things you wish you would have done but were never bold enough to.

From Victoria Beckham to Chloe Sevigny, Hollywood stars are rushing to try out one of these pairs of homemade shoes, which means we too should follow suit since a new trend in terms of footwear has just emerged. That is, if we can afford shelling out more than 2K on such a pair of fancy shoes.

“I think it’s popular because it’s such a great shoe – it;s really fun and jolly, and is a proper work of art.” Katie Grand, editor of Love magazine and stylist for Louis Vuitton, says to the Daily Mail as to what makes these shoes such a major hit.

“Its birth was at about three in the morning, with Marc [Jacobs] cutting up bits of snake, leather, leopard and ribbon, and the design team making masks to put on the front. Nearly every pair in the show was unique, which I think people also like.” Grand further adds.

And it is precisely this uniqueness that makes Spicy such a coveted accessory. Either with beads, feathers or many, many leather straps, each pair is a one-of-a-kind work of art, which, in today’s society of mass production, actually counts for a lot – with celebrities, at least.

Stars have and will always seek to wear items that are not found on the shelves of uptown stores and, in this sense, the Louis Vuitton Spicy Sandals are just the thing to achieve that.

Of course, since regular women are perhaps not in a position to throw away that much money on a single pair of shoes, cheaper variants are also possible. Stylists targeting the regular (trendy) lady recommend buying a pair of more fancy-looking sandals (mind the heel and the sole, they say, so as to be the closest thing to the Vuitton pair) and then adding all that extra bling at home. With a little skill and plenty of talent, anyone can get a decent replica of a Vuitton Spicy pair, as long as they don’t go overboard with the beads, feathers and anything else they might want to throw in there.
