Microsoft is gearing up to hand out no less than 2,010 copies of Office 2010 RTM this month to celebrate the general availability of the latest iteration of its productivity suite. On June 15th, 2010, Office 2010 is slated to hit the store shelves. Two weeks ahead of Office 2010’s commercial launch, the company announced the Microsoft Office Social Media Challenge Sweepstakes. Opened to customers in the United States, the challenge is designed to award a copy of Office 2010 Professional worth no less than $499.00 to a total of 2,010 participants in the Microsoft Office Social Media Challenge Sweepstakes.

There’s not much that contestants will need to do, according to the software giant. Essentially, as the official label of the sweepstakes implies, the challenge is revolving around the social-networking world. “Can’t wait to get your hands on Microsoft Office 2010? We’re giving away 2,010 copies this month to contest participants on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn with our Win 2010 Contests. Challenges will be announced on these networks throughout the month,” Doug Kim, managing editor, Office Online at Microsoft, revealed.

Office 20109 was released to manufacturing in mid-April 2010, and was offered to business customers in May. Come June 15, users around the world will also be able to buy Office 2010 via various retail outlets, both from traditional shops, and online, through the Microsoft Store, for example. Fact is that the Office 2010 pre-sales have gone live on the Microsoft Store for quite some time now, but customers will only be getting their copy of the productivity suite after June 15th.

“During the month of June, Sponsor will conduct multiple ‘challenges’ by inviting visitors to respond to a prompt via a social media site. The prompt, the social media site and winner determination may be unique to each game, and will be described on Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin. For example, the invitation could state ‘Share an Office 2010 tip. Be the first person to respond via a ‘tweet’ to @Office with the #Office2010tip tag to win a copy of Office 2010.’ We will only accept one (1) entry per eligible person per Sweepstakes. Non-winning entries will not be included in subsequent Sweepstakes; you must enter each Sweepstakes separately. We are not responsible for entries that we do not receive for any reason, or for entries that we receive but are not decipherable for any reason,” Microsoft explained.
