Agile Web Solutions, the folks behind the most popular password manager for Mac OS X, have finally gotten their approval from Apple - 1Password for iPhone is now available for (free) download through the App Store.

Last week, Dave (co-author of 1Password) of Agile Web Solutions was informing 1Password fans that the company had just submitted the iPhone version of the app for approval from Apple. "I can't promise when 1Password will be available in the App Store as we need to wait for Apple's approval, but I would guess in a week or two 1Password should be there. [...] For a limited time we have decided to give away the iPhone/iPod touch of 1Password for FREE!!" Dave said.

As of today, 1Password for iPhone and iPod touch is available for free download. The iTunes App Store link for 1Password is here.

After downloading and starting up the app for the first time, you will be presented with a Welcome Screen that asks you to setup an Unlock Code, as well as a Master Password. 1Password securely stores your important information and logs you into websites automatically with a single tap. As a user, you will not need to remember the username, password or even the website addresses you regularly use. Your data is protected using the same state of the art Hardware-accelerated AES encryption and Auto-Lock (US standard).

According to the App Store description of 1Password, the iPhone version of the password management software boasts:

- Hardware-accelerated AES encryption and Auto-Lock, to keep your data protected even if your iPhone is lost or stolen.

- All cryptographic operations are performed using standard iPhone libraries to ensure there are no security gaps or backdoors.

- Two-layer defense with Unlock Code and Master Password to combine security and convenience.

- Automatic Web site login to avoid remembering and typing usernames and passwords.

- Secure two-way sync with 1Password for Mac (sold separately and available for download from the official website of 1Password).

Remember, 1Password is free for a limited period of time. You are required iPhone OS 2.0 to be able to download and run the software. Also note that version 1.0 has an issue where the application will not auto-lock if iPhone is put to sleep while 1Password is running. Agile Web Solutions has already come up with a fix for the problem. The company claims it will submit it to the App Store shortly.
