The makers of 1Password, the most popular password manager on the Mac, have announced the iPhone version of their software. It's FREE! The desktop version of the software (currently at version 2.7.2) has also been updated lately, adding Go & Fill functionality directly in the web browser.

"We have just submited [sic] 1Password to Apple for approval," says Agile Web Solutions' Dave, co-author of 1Password. "I can't promise when 1Password will be available in the App Store as we need to wait for Apple's approval, but I would guess in a week or two 1Password should be there. [...] For a limited time we have decided to give away the iPhone/iPod touch of 1Password for FREE!!"

Dave adds that, while not everyone has an iPhone or iPod touch, they also decided to add a wonderful treat for all 1Password customers, "something that many of you have been requesting for a long time," as he puts it. And that is the new Go & Fill functionality available directly in the web browser, a new feature that has been in the works for over a year and the #1 feature request, Dave says. He is happy to announce that they've "nailed it in this release."

According to the author of the software, using the new Bookmarks window, you can now access all your 1Click Bookmarks directly in your web browser. All you have to do is:

1 - select Bookmarks from the 1Password toolbar icon menu or use the Command+Option+Backslash keyboard shortcut;

2 - search for your bookmark or view all your saved forms using the Select a Bookmark menu;

3 - upon selecting a bookmark, 1Password will take you to the website, fill in your saved information, and optionally submit the form, a process that's much simpler than selecting a browser's bookmark and restoring the form or typing an address in the URL bar.

But enough about the desktop version of 1Password. You can check out the new stuff yourself by upgrading right now.

Back to 1Password for iPhone and iPod touch, the app can only be installed directly from the App Store, the makers say. "We are currently awaiting approval from Apple; once completed you will be able to download and install 1Password directly from the App Store."

After downloading and starting up the app for the first time, you will be presented with a Welcome Screen that asks you to setup an Unlock Code as well as a Master Password, says Agile Web Solutions. Be sure to leave a post with us if you happen to grab 1Password early.
