Agile Web Solutions has updated 1Password, the company’s password manager and form filler for Mac OS X. Among the numerous changes included with the 1Password 2.9.19 release, the software also adds support for Safari 4, Apple’s standard web browser on Macintosh computers.

Besides the newly added support, 1Password now boasts more logging when performing backups and changing keychain locations. Automatic support for Camino nightly builds has been disabled to avoid crashes, Agile says. Other improvements include:

– Improved the 1PasswordAgent upgrade process to make it more robust.
– Improved domain matching rules to work better with domains like k12.sc.us.
– Better support for .appshelf files, they can now be drag-n-dropped on 1Password dock icon to start the Import Assistant automatically.

1Password is a password manager and form filler for Mac OS X and iPhone. The solution is designed to remember all the online passwords that a user inserts on any web page or form, anytime, by using one single (master) countersign. The desktop version of 1Password integrates directly into most browsers (Firefox, Camino, OmniWeb, DEVONagent, NetNewsWire, as well as Apple's own Safari), and sports built-in, anti-phishing and keylogger protection. Using the app, Mac owners can easily manage hundreds of passwords with one key.

An update to the iPhone version of 1Password is also scheduled for a release soon. Some of the enhancements include a database Backup and Restore option, some changes to the Tabs, a monospaced font to better display password values, a new way of displaying password values, and a more natural view sequence after the new Wallet item is added.

1Password for Mac OS X starts at $39.95 – Single User license. A Family license costs $59.95. 1Password is licensed on a per-person basis (a single license can be used by one person on as many Macs as they can afford), in order to reduce 1Password's total cost of ownership. By using the links below, you can update to the latest version, try out 1Password for free in demo mode, or buy a copy of the software. 1Password requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). It is a Universal Binary application, suitable for both Intel-based Macs and PowerPC machines.

If like me you dont want to buy the new version just to be able to use it in Safari 4 ...you can add the "1p" button yourself
Heres how

1. Close Safari
Go to the /Applications/ folder
Right click on 1password.app, hit “Show Package Contents”
Navigate to /Contents/Resources/
Double click on SupportedBrowsers.plist. If you have Apple’s development tools installed, it’ll open in the Plist editor. If not, it’ll open in plaintext.
If you’re using the Plist editor, expand the “Safari” drop-down (Just click the little arrow beside Safari).
Look for the MaxBundleVersion key with a value of 5528.1 - change it to 5530.17 (at the time of writing this is the lastest version of safari...you can see the version in the about tab) Save.
Open Safari
You can now use 1password via the right click menu in Safari Beta 4. If you want to add the 1password button to your toolbar, go to View > Customize Toolbar in Safari and drag it over.
